Mary-Margaret Carpenter Is a rabbit scientist. She is an author writing several books on rabbits. She has collected, compiled, and categorized a searchable database of thousands of rabbit scientific studies from across the world. She is a nationally ranked leading show breeder with over 100 rabbits herself, she's been breeding nearly a decade *she sells no pets, makes zero profit*. She IS a rabbit expert...

Everything you know about wire cages is wrong, and based on false misleading information.

A ten year long, 10,000 rabbit study from Europe, showed that rabbits didn't get sore hocks in cages. The few instances noted in the study *5%* were due to genetic factors.

A scuentific study from Germany gave a colony of free roaming rabbits cages. Within 15min the cages were claimed and being defended and the occupants wanted to stay in the cage, despite being born free roam.

In another scientific study, cages were built in such a way as rabbits could push bars to increase their space or decrease their space. Rabbits hit the decrease bar repeatedly...the rabbits themselves did not like when there was open space.

Pododermatitis lesions *sore hocks* are due to not being able to properly put the toes down, not getting airflow to the foot, contact with urine and feces *such as in a litter box* , and genetic predisposition. The majority of rabbits with sore hocks are free roam house Rabbits. Rabbits kept on proper gauge and spaced wire don't get sore hocks...instead, proper wire can actually heal sore hocks *I have documented a case fully of this*. The ARBA national convention hosted 24,000 rabbits. 24k rabbits that didn't have sore hocks *because it's a disqualification * and all kept in wire cages.
