Sallander

Here's a little PSA 😁 since people seem confused, again.

All of us in this color genetics world that there are many different color names described in different breeds.

Many, like blue, black, chocolate, etc are the same. Some have common names but are not described in any standard.

This is a Mini Satin Siamese. Most people hear Siamese and think that it is supposed to be sable. However in Minisatins this is not the case. They are a self nonextension CHINCHILLA. There is no sable in the Minisatin breed.

aaB-cchd-D-ee would be a black based Siamese, they can come in all four base colors. (Note : these will have Colored eyes)

This color is "commonly' called sallander, but sallander is not an accepted color description in any north American breed, it is only in Satins and is only called Siamese.

The body color of a sallander mimics Hymilayan aka pointed white , or Californian to add to all that, 'Himalayan" is another one of those 'common' descriptions of what is genetically a pointed white. 😁 pointed white is a partial albinism creating a mostly white rabbit with pink/red eyes. The melanin production in pointed whites is also temperature sensitive, cooler body temps turn on the melanin production, this is why the color is restricted to the extremities and can lighten and darken with the seasons.

Non extension colors like tort, Siamese, etc can also be somewhat temperature sensitive, getting darker in the winter, but they are not albino 👍

Another way to think of sallander is a tort with the red turned to cream by the chin gene.
